Special Event Fun

The Kid's Zone planning committee has been hard at work these past few months, coordinating with community partners to create a great space for the airshow’s younger audience.

This area is all for the kids. There will be plenty of inflatables to jump and play on as well a dozen of hands-on, minds-on activities and exhibits from NASA and local organizations, like Northshore STEM’s Brain Food Truck, a mobile STEM Lab maker’s space.

Aviation is full of science, technology, engineering, and math principles, and we want to make sure kids attending the airshow have the opportunity to learn about the STEM behind the stunning aviation performances they’ll see that weekend!

Northshore Technical Community College

Board our 40-foot Mechatronics tech trailer for some serious in-flight training—take the controls of a heavy equipment simulator and go hands-on with an industrial robot.

Hammond Regional Art Center

Fasten your seatbelts for two sky-high activities—little pilots can color Bayou Skies, and seasoned flyers can chart their course with Aviation Design.

SeaPerch

Dive into discovery! Our SeaPerch Remotely Operated Vehicles give aviators a chance to fly underwater.

Aviation and Drones

Take to the skies with Fly Right Simulators and their immersive flight simulators. Feel the thrill of being in the cockpit without ever leaving the ground. The LSU AgCenter 4-H and Global Geospatial Institute will put you in the pilot seat with hands-on with drone technology. You can fly drones in a safe, enclosed cage and learn about their applications in geospatial science. You can also see how Marathon Petroleum uses professional drones in its operations. Meet real pilots and their families with the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veteran's Archive. The Civil Air Patrol will provide Aerospace & Aviation demonstrations and activities for all ages.

Robotics Village

Step into the future at our new Robotics Village! Watch a high-energy competition between four of Louisiana's top-rated high school FIRST Robotics teams. These teams will unleash their life-size robots, which move faster than a person can run, to complete a series of exciting challenges. The Robotics Village is also a place for the whole family to get hands-on with robotics. Learn how to start or join arobotics program in your own school or community.

U S Air Force Shadow Strike

Operation Shadow Strike is a 4D immersive experience that allows participants to engage in a high-stakes Air Force rescue mission. The event is designed to recruit young people into the Air Force by providing them with a preview of what it's like to be part of an Air Force operation.

Pegasus Aviation and Aerospace Lab

Pegasus is a converted emergency unit featuring flight and space shuttle simulators, giving kids a chance to fly over 100 different RC aircraft or try their hands at landing a space shuttle in Florida. Children will build and fly compressed air rockets capable of 100 to 150-foot flights while learning basic use of thrust and aerodynamics by designing their rockets, fins, and gross weight measurements.

U S Marines

Physical Challenge A taste of being The Few, The proud for the few who measure up to being a U S Marine, manned by U S Marines, this exhibit gives kids an opportunity to meet real Marines and interact with them.

U S Civil Air Patrol

CAP will exhibit a full scale Cessna aircraft in Air Force aux livery. CAP will also be offering Aerospace Program enrollment for educators and teaching organizations, and have cadets available to interact with visitors.
