The Largest Kid’s Zone Ever Is Landing at the 2025 Hammond Northshore Regional Airshow!

October 2, 2025

This year’s Hammond Northshore Regional Airshow is taking family fun to new heights with the largest Kid’s Zone we’ve ever built, packed with interactive exhibits, hands-on STEM activities, robotics competitions, and experiences that will leave kids (and parents!) inspired. Whether your little ones dream of flying fighter jets, building rockets, or exploring the bayou, there’s something for every future aviator, engineer, and adventurer.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s waiting for you on October 11th and 12th:

Aviation and Drones

  • Take to the skies with Fly Right Simulators and their immersive flight simulators. Feel the thrill of being in the cockpit without ever leaving the ground.
  • The LSU AgCenter 4-H and Global Geospatial Institute will put you in the pilot seat with hands-on drone technology. You can fly drones in a safe, enclosed cage and learn about their applications in geospatial science.
  • You can also see how Marathon Oil uses professional drones in its operations.
  • Meet real commercial pilots and their families with the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veteran's Archive
  • The Civil Air Patrol will provide Aerospace & Aviation demonstrations and activities for all ages.
  • The Northshore STEM Coalition’s Brain Food Truck will also be there, allowing you to build your own anemometer to test wind speed, alongside crafting and testing shoebox gliders and paper airplanes on the Kid’s Zone Runway.

Civil Air Patrol

CAP will exhibit a full-scale Cessna aircraft in Air Force aux livery. CAP will also be offering Aerospace Program enrollment for educators and teaching organizations, and have cadets available to interact with visitors.

Phoenix RC Flying Team

This local RC club will exhibit RC aircraft of all types, supported by flight simulators in the Pegasus unit. Due to flight safety concerns, no flight demonstrations are possible, but certificates for free lessons will be distributed to those with an interest in model aviation.

Pegasus Aviation and Aerospace Lab

Pegasus is a converted emergency unit featuring flight and space shuttle simulators, giving kids a chance to fly over 100 different RC aircraft or try their hands at a simulated space shuttle landing. Children will build and fly compressed air rockets capable of 100- to 150-foot flights while learning basic use of thrust and aerodynamics by designing their rockets, fins, and gross weight measurements.

Inflatable Space Shuttle

This 40-foot by 20-foot space shuttle can be entered to find a walk-through display of NASA items and handout materials, including NASA stickers and activities. Actual recordings of NASA manned space missions will be played throughout.

Northshore Technical Community College

Board our 40-foot Mechatronics tech trailer for some serious in-flight training. You can take the controls of a heavy equipment simulator and go hands-on with an industrial robot.

Southeastern Northshore STEM Center

Thanks to our partners at LASTEM, NTCC, and Southeastern, the STEM Center is packed with fun! Blast off with rocket launchers, spin into the centripetal force challenge, take flight in VR aviation, score big with physics football, and spark your skills with AR welding.

Hammond Regional Art Center

Fasten your seatbelts for two sky-high activities: little pilots can color their own version of the Bayou Skies, while seasoned flyers can chart their course with Aviation Design.

Turtle Cove Environmental Research Center

Turtle Cove Environmental Research Center is cleared for takeoff! Their team is bringing aquatic animals and bayou plant life to showcase the ecosystem that makes our region soar.

SeaPerch

Dive into discovery with SeaPerch Remotely Operated Vehicles, which give aspiring aviators a chance to “fly” underwater.

Southeastern Louisiana University Industrial Engineering Program

Your imagination is cleared for landing! Southeastern’s Industrial Engineering & Technology Department is bringing 3D-printed creations to the hangar. Design your own keychain to take home and test your skills with puzzles fresh off the printer.

Robotics Village

Step into the future at our new Robotics Village! Watch a high-energy competition between four of Louisiana's top-rated high school FIRST Robotics teams. These teams will unleash their life-size robots, which move faster than a person can run, to complete a series of exciting challenges. The Robotics Village is also a place for the whole family to get hands-on with robotics. Learn how to start or join a robotics program in your own school or community.

STEM

Unleash your inner scientist with a variety of engaging STEM activities.

  • Explore fascinating tabletop physics with LIGO/LLPA
  • Get creative with Louisiana 4-H by making seed bombs that help the environment.
  • NIWC Atlantic will bring a fun regatta boat-making activity and straw rocket launch, perfect for exploring the principles of flight and propulsion.
  • Test your knowledge and gain new experience in the physics of flight with the Louisiana Science and Art Museum by building and launching percussion rockets while measuring thrust (Delta V) to weight and altitude.

Girls in STEM

The Girl Scouts Louisiana East will have the Misty Blues and a female Air Boss to meet.

CN Railroads “Obie the Train”

Kids and families will be able to learn about train and railroad crossing safety, as well as take a ride on Obie the train around the festival site.  Thank you to CN railroad for sponsoring this!

Military

  • U.S. Air Force Shadow Strike Operation Shadow Strike is a 4D immersive experience that allows participants to engage in a high-stakes Air Force rescue mission. It features a 3D film, motion theater seats, sensory effects, and 360-degree surround sound, creating an interactive and thrilling experience. The event is designed to recruit young people into the Air Force by providing them with a preview of what it's like to be part of an Air Force operation.

  • U.S. Navy The Navy’s mobile aviation van will give young aviators the opportunity to fly the famous F-14 Tomcat on simulator from the deck of a Navy Air Craft Carrier for a truly “Top Gun” adventure.

  • U.S. Marines This exhibit gives kids an opportunity to meet and interact with real U.S. Marines.

  • U.S. Army Kids will meet the challenge of physical fitness on chin-up bars and obstacle courses at this exhibit. Army personnel will be on hand to interact with all visitors.

Other Kid’s Zone Activities:

  • Inflatable bounce houses and games
  • Chappapeela Sports Zone
  • An informational area regarding railroad safety featuring Obie, CN’s scale-model locomotive
  • The TRAAC Coalition will host cornhole throws and other activities while distributing and promoting healthy youth activities in the prevention of tobacco, vaping, alcohol, and substance abuse.

This year’s Kid’s Zone is more than just fun––it's an unforgettable learning adventure for the whole family. Get ready to explore, play, and take flight at the 2025 Hammond Northshore Regional Airshow!
